VATM marked the 800,000th flight safely controlled in 2017

On 27 December 2017 at Noi Bai international Airport, the Viet Nam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), Vietnam Airlines and Airports Corporation of Viet Nam (ACV) co-hosted a ceremony to mark the 800, 000th flight safely controlled by VATM, the 1.5 millionth member of the Golden Lotus Program of Vietnam Airlines and the 94 millionth passenger through airports of Viet Nam in 2017.

In 2017, VATM has provided safely more than 800.000 flights operating over Viet Nam airspace and landing/ taking off Viet Nam airports. The traffic movements increases over 10 percent in comparison with the year 2016. To achieve these results, VATM has focused on solutions to upgrade infrastructure, modern equipment and improve quality of human resources to meet requirements for development.

One of the resolution implemented in 2017 is application of new ATC procedure named SID/STAR NRAV1 at Noi Bai and Da Nang airports to optimize the capacity of airspace and airports by 10 to 15 percent.

Together with the application of SID/STAR RNAV1 procedure, the subdivision of sectors in approach control area has also been implemented synchronously to reduce congestion in the airspace of Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports as well as workload of air traffic controllers. These also reduce fuel costs, exhaust emission in the environment and increase economical efficiency.

Besides, VATM has also applied new ATC procedure using the RNP1 and eRNP APCH navigation specification criteria based on GNSS signals at Cam Ranh airport. The using of RNP1 and eRNP APCH navigation specification criteria based on GNSS signals will ensure the accuracy, integrity, availability, and continuity.

Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) implementation is an important task has been implemented by VATM in 2017 through participating in the Distributed Multi-Nodal ATFM Network Trial Operation in the region with Singapore and Thailand.

Thanks to those above achievements, VATM has made significant progress to provide air navigation services with high quality to meet and satisfy demands of domestic and international airlines forward to the target of becoming one of the leading ANSPs in the South-East Asia region in the next coming time.
