VATM and LFV cooperate to accelerate Digitalization in Air Traffic Management
Hanoi, Vietnam — February 3, 2026 — Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) formally launched a major cooperation initiative with Swedish partners to advance the digital transformation of air traffic services across Vietnam’s aviation system. The event marked the official signing and commencement of a consultancy agreement for a strategic research project on digital air traffic management and remote air traffic control technologies.
The event received attendance of H.E. Johan Ndisi Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam,; representatives from the Swedish Business Service; CAAV; Vietnam Airlines, beside participation of VATM leaders and LFV Aviation Consulting team.

Science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and international integration have been identified as strategic pillars of Vietnam's current development. As the sole Air Traffic Management Service Provider (ANSP) of Viet Nam, VATM makes a significant contribution to the aviation industry in particular and the Vietnamese economy in general. Therefore, VATM has also identified breakthroughs in science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and infrastructure development, along with international integration, as key focuses for achieving its development goals in the 2025-2030 period.
Toward such orientation, in his welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Hoang Minh – Chairman of VATM – stated that VATM expects the project's results to bring about significant and groundbreaking changes, not only in terms of technology but also in operations and human resources involved in the service supply chain, thereby enhancing the efficiency of air traffic management for VATM as well as stakeholders in the aviation industry in Vietnam. This will help the project go beyond mere "sponsorship", and more importantly, contribute to the sustainable development of the aviation industry at the national and regional levels. Furthermore, the most meaningful value that VATM aims for as an ANSP is the positive impact of the project on people, specifically improving the safety and quality of air travel, and the quality of the living environment through increased flight operation efficiency and reduced emissions.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam proudly recalled the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries, when Sweden was the first Western country to officially recognize diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1969. With a long tradition of friendship and cooperation, the Ambassador hoped that the project would continue to open up opportunities for deeper cooperation between the two countries. As the first country in the world to deploy RTC technology and also one of the pioneers in implementing SWIM, Sweden hopes to soon see a new symbol of cooperation between the two countries in the aviation industry – a digital ATC Tower in Vietnam, thanks to the research collaboration between LFV Aviation Consulting and VATM.

Alongside RTC, “SWIM will not just be a technical upgrade, it will be the new ‘brain’ of the air traffic management industry,” shared Mr. Ho Sy Tung, Deputy General Director of VATM and head of the VATM project team. “Instead of complex, individual connections, SWIM will create a flat data environment where meteorological information, air traffic flow, airport maps, and flight plans are seamlessly shared among all stakeholders.” This will support the air traffic management industry in particular and the aviation industry in general as the industry faces a historical turning point in its digital transformation process.
Ms. Maria Wall Petrini, CEO of LFV Aviation Consulting expressed the appreciation to VATM for their close coordination, which enabled the two sides to officially kcik-off the project. LFV hopes that, with the efforts of experts from both sides, along with the support and collaboration of the leaders of both organizations and the sponsor, the project will be implemented on schedule and with guaranteed quality, realizing VATM's vision and goals in implementing SWIM and RTC, contributing to the digital transformation of the aviation industry.

The grant agreement was signed between VATM and Swedfund in June 2025 in Stockholm, within the framework of the Sweden-Vietnam Business Forum, in the presence of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Swedish Minister of International Cooperation and Foreign Trade, along with leaders from various ministries and agencies of Vietnam and Sweden. LFV Aviation Consulting – a subsidiary of LFV, a Swedish Air Navigation Services Provider (ANSP) – was selected as the consultant to conduct the study. The consulting agreement was signed between VATM and LFV Aviation Consulting in December 2025. The study is expected to be implemented within 12 months from the project's commencement date.
The signing ceremony for the consulting agreement and the official launch of the project took place during LFV Aviation Consulting's two-week working visit to Vietnam from January 26, 2026 to February 5, 2025. This was the first official activity within the scope of the project. Initial exchanges and information sharing took place positively and effectively between the expert teams from both sides and relevant parties in Vietnam. Outcome of this working program is an Inception Report to be delivered by LFV Aviation Consulting.
