VATM successfully controlled first flights at Long Thanh International Airport

8:17 AM (UTC+7), December 19, 2025, a Boeing 787 aircraft of Vietnam Airlines, departing from Noi Bai International Airport, landed safely at Long Thanh International Airport. Within the following 30 minutes, a flight by Vietjet Air and another one by Bamboo Airways, departing from Tan Son Nhat Airport, also landed safely at the airport.

The first flights were controlled under conditions where the key air traffic management facilities and equipment under Component Project 2 “Air Traffic Management Facilities” of the “Long Thanh International Airport – Phase 1” Project, with VATM as the investor, had completed construction, installation, inspection, and testing, fully meeting the technical, safety, and operational requirements according to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

Specifically, key technical systems serving air traffic control, such as surveillance radar, SMR systems, key parts of the A-SMGCS system, ADS-B, communication - navigation systems, meteorological systems, and the VOR/DME station, had been tested and accepted to meet technical requirements, ready to operate synchronously with the Ho Chi Minh Air Traffic Control Center, ensuring continuity through the whole chain of air traffic control. During operation, close coordination procedures between the Ho Chi Minh ACC, the Tan Son Nhat APP center, and the Long Thanh ATC Tower were conducted by VATM efficiently, ensuring seamless operation throughout the entire chain from departing, enroute until approach and ground control by Long Thanh ATC Tower.

The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority (CAAV) had announced the operating license for the Long Thanh Air Traffic Control Center and operating licenses for ATC technical equipment, systems for key technical equipment systems of the project, officially recognizing the readiness of air navigation service provision at Long Thanh International Airport.

The Project Component 2 "Air Traffic Management Facilities" invested by VATM under the Project “Long Thanh International Airport Project - Phase 1” were commenced on September 29, 2022, in Dong Nai Province, with a total investment of nearly VND 3,500 billion from VATM's own capital and domestic commercial loans. The project includes modern facilities and technological equipment systems such as the Air Traffic Control Tower, radar stations, CNS systems, meteorological systems, and power supply systems to ensure air traffic control. The total project area is approximately 70,000 m², with the Air Traffic Control Tower of 123 m high as the central. 

This is a special-grade transportation project, playing a key role in the overall Long Thanh International Airport Project, as a 4F-Airport according to ICAO standards, with strategic significance for national aviation infrastructure, ensuring air traffic control capacity for all three development phases of the airport. Long Thanh international airport is expected to be an international gateway airport, and a regional hub. It is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2026.
