At 00h00 UTC of July 19^th 2012, the new Noi Bai TWR was officially put into operation. During the initial period of operation, air traffic controllers and technicians faced many difficulties and challenges. They have to, at the same time, work in both Old and New Noi Bai TWRs as well as join training courses of using new and modern equipment, technology transfer and system operation under new procedures and processes.

Thanks to the leadership of VATM’s Leader Board and the efforts of NORATs’ staffs, over the last one year, the operation of Noi Bai TWR has completed a number of key tasks, as follows:

• To meet the requirements of increasing flight activities at Noi Bai International Airport, in accordance with the development plan of VATM and applicable process of the new CNS/ATM technology assigned by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The new TWR at Noi Bai International Airport - invested by Viet Nam Air Traffic Management Corporation with total investment of over 545 billion VND - has main function of providing air navigation services in accordance with ICAO standards & recommendations providing air traffic services (Approach/Aerodrome control) for the civil and military aircraft from/to Noi Bai International Airport and the terminal area; monitoring vehicles operating in aerodrome traffic zone (ground control); meet the growth of aviation activities of Noi Bai International Airport in the future.
The construction consists of two main parts: one TWR with 88m high; the aerodrome control cabin with area of ​​80m² and one 4-floor engineering block with a total area of ​​2,600 m². Systems, equipment and technical standards are for an ATC TWR having medium and high density. Currently, it is considered as the highest TWR in Viet Nam and is one of the most modern air traffic services  unit of Viet Nam and Southeast Asia, with the maximized control capacity of 100000 flights/per year, capacity of expanding up to 500 000 fights/per year.

Noi Bai TWR has steadily created a symbol of Viet Nam civil aviation industry at Noi Bai International Airport by being a special architectural construction with modern and synchronized facility, providing air traffic services with high quality under the international standards. This construction contributes positively to the facility modernization of VATM in particular and of Viet Nam civil aviation industry in general in order to bring Viet Nam to become one of advanced air navigation service providers in the region.
