The scope of the cooperation program involves enhancing safety, capacity and efficiency by redesigning flight procedures and airspace within Terminal Control Area (TMA) with the aim of improving capacity and efficiency of the airport as well as its airspace, which is under the pressure of rapid air traffic growth.

The optimization of PBN procedures using Point Merge System will allow CCO and CDO, more efficient trajectories, reduced fuel consumption, reduced approach/departure separation and reduce workload of air traffic controllers and pilots to improve both safety and capacity. The modification of vertical limit and sector configurations of Tan Son Nhat TMA also supports workload balance between air traffic controllers, thus improve capacity and efficiency.

The new PBN procedures for Tan Son Nhat were validated through simulation sessions by experienced pilots, flight procedure designers and air traffic control experts from NAVBLUE/Airbus and VATM,  and indicated that the CONOPS  is likely to improve both runway configuration’s through put up to 54 flights per hour and also reduced average flight miles flown and improved CDO.

New flight procedure for RWY 25L/R

This is one of the important solutions of VATM to promptly solve the problem of air traffic congestion in the air and on the ground at Tan Son Nhat airport, ensuring the smooth and effective operation of aircrafts at the airport and improving the airspace capacity as well.
