Press release: The new Air traffic control tower at Tan Son Nhat international airport
The New TSN Air Traffic Control Tower provides air traffic control (ATC) services in 24/24 hours (approach/aerodrome/ground/apron and military control positions) for all landing/take off flights to/from TSN international airport to ensure that the ATC capability meets the maximum capacity of TSN International Airport under the Master Plan approved by Vietnam’s Prime Minister.
The major bid packages are:
+ Design Consultancy: conducted by Japan Airport Consultants, Inc. (JAC);
+ Supervision Consultancy: conducted by Consultant and Inspection Joint Stock Company of Construction Technology and Equipment – CONINCO
+ Construction: conducted by VN Investment Constructions & Trading Joint Stock Corporation (CONSTREXIM) Holdings
+ Ground surveillance radar system: supplied & installed by HITT contractor – the Neitherlands;
+ATM Technical system: provided & installed by GECI contractor – Spain.
The New TSN Air Traffic Control Tower, with the height of 70m, is reinforced concrete structure and covered artificially stone Noeparies. Two ATC Cabins are at the top of the Tower, made of high strength structural steel and fitted with laminated glass panels in accordance with ICAO standards that having sound proof, heat insulation to ensure optimal visibility for air traffic controllers). The technical block, with a floor area of 3000 m2 totally, is equipped with main technical systems.
The technical systems of the Tower are imported, containing 06 civil technical systems; the Building Management System (BMS) and 12 ATM technical systems, which are designed, equipped and tested to achieve highest operational standards in accordance with ICAO regulations. Especially, the Surface movement radar is installed on Tower's roof to ensure providing surveillance of aircrafts and vehicles’ movements in the apron area in all weather conditions at TSN international airport.
After completing comprehensive assessments of the system’s technical features, equipements, infrastructure, training activities, legal documents, operational manuals, flight procedures, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) officially issued an Operational License for Air Navigation Services No. 2535/GP-CHK dated 12 June 2013 to VATM. After receiving the Operational License, the New TSN Air Traffic Control Tower was put into official operation from 07h00 UTC dated 16 June 2013 stably and safely.
The New TSN Air Traffic Control Tower with modern advanced ATM technology has taken an important role to ensure the safety of flights operating at TSN international airport. The Tower has become a symbol of State – of – the – art architecture in the eyes of thousands of domestic & international passengers traveling through this largest international gateway of Vietnam.
