Transponder Landing System
\r\n
Attending the seminar , there were representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam, Airports Corporation of Viet Nam, Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation and Staff of Air Force and Air Defense.
\r\nAt the seminar, the ANPC introduced technical features and advantages of the Transponder Landing System.

Mobile Transponder Landing System of Spanish Air Force
\r\nThe Transponder Landing System (TLS) provides a multi-functional aid to navigation that complies with ICAO Standards And Recommended Practices, such as:
\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
\r\n- Precision Approach Radar (PAR) Display
\r\n- Instrument Landing System (ILS) Guidance
\r\n- Secondary Surveillance Radar
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
The outstanding advantages of TLS, in comparison with the existing conventional ILS are able to use at airports where rough terrain or real estate constraints make ILS installation infeasible or cost-prohibitive. Moreover, all ILS-equipped aircraft can also use TLS without new avionics supplement.
\r\n\r\n
\r\n
On technical aspect:
\r\n- \r\n
- LS determines the aircraft’s position in space from signals emitted by the aircraft’s transponder, using time and angle measurements at ground-based sensors \r\n
- Localizer and glide slope corrections are computed to guide the aircraft to the desired course and appear in the cockpit just as ILS corrections do. \r\n
- TLS is inherently easier to site an ILS and therefore can be less costly to install, providing signals-in-space for horizontal and vertical guidance without extensive ground conditioning. \r\n
This system also has been certified by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The TLS complies with the RTCA DO-178B reliability standard for airborne software and the SAE ARP4754 certification model high-integrated or complex aircraft systems.
\r\nIn general, through the seminar, many relevant contents as well as advantages and disadvantages of the TLS has been clarified. It is clear that the TLS brings many advantages, but actually, it is necessary to make further researches before putting the system into operation at Viet Nam’s airports.
