VATM enhances international cooperation in Air Traffic Flow Management with Metron Aviation's Harmony ATFM Trial

Ha Noi, Viet Nam, June 12, 2025, The Viet Nam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has officially launched a cooperative trial program for the Harmony Air Traffic Flow Management (Harmony ATFM) system with Metron Aviation (USA). This initiative marks a significant step in VATM's ongoing efforts to modernize air traffic operations and enhance flow management capabilities. 

The kick-off meeting was held in a collaborative and open atmosphere attended by leaders and specialists from VATM, including Air Traffic Management, CNS, and Safety-Quality Departments, as well as representatives from regional ATS companies and the Air Traffic Flow Management Center. Metron Aviation's delegation, led by Ms. Kapri Kupper, Director of Customer Experience and Project Management, joined remotely, demonstrating the partner's strong commitment to the collaboration.

Mr. Chu Minh Duoc, Director of the Air Traffic Flow Management Center, VATM, stated: "VATM highly appreciates this collaboration with Metron Aviation. We are confident that this trial program will yield positive results, contributing to more efficient air traffic flow management in Viet Nam. The Harmony ATFM trial is not only a crucial technological milestone but also highlights the success of international cooperation in air traffic flow management".

Metron Aviation emphasized that the trial follows months of joint preparation since January 2025, and this led to the official signing of the Collaboration Agreement on June 3rd 2025.

The core objective of this three-month trial is to enable VATM to comprehensively evaluate the Harmony ATFM system's capabilities within Viet Nam's operational environment. VATM will focus on assessing the accuracy of flight demand forecasts, the efficiency of balancing demand and capacity, its ability to support data-driven decision-making, and its enhancement of situational awareness for all stakeholders.  

The meeting also clearly defined the next steps: VATM will provide a list of users, and Metron Aviation will provide the air traffic telegram reception address and confirm the training schedule. Both parties will agree on the official start date of the trial operations to accelerate trial progress. Both parties agreed on detailed next steps, including: Weekly coordination meetings with official minutes; User list and training programs; Establishment of operational procedures.
